President: Clare O’Mara
Clare received her B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Notre Dame. Originally from the Chicagoland area, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a dual degree in Master of Health Administration and Master of Science in Gerontology. Clare is currently completing her administrative residency at Dignity Health in Physician Integration and Payment Innovation. In her spare time, Clare loves doing anything related to fitness and the outdoors. She is especially interested in running, hiking, and Spartan races!
Vice President: Roger Tang
Roger received his BA from USC in 2013. Prior to grad school, he spent two years as an analyst for Microsoft’s Business Operations and Finance team in the SF Bay Area. After completing his administrative residency with the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan in Clinical Operations and Outside Medical Services, Roger is currently working as a project manager for Kaiser Permanente’s total health initiative — focusing on social needs interventions and management of predicted high utilizers. In his free time, you will find him at the beach or wandering through museums.
Director of EMHA and Alumni Relations: Janae Osby
Janae graduated from UCLA in 2015 with a degree in Anthropology and minor in Public Health. Janae is currently completing her administrative residency at Providence Health & Services in the Operational Excellence Department and Providence Health Network. Janae’s healthcare interests are centered around process improvement, quality care, and hospital operations. Janae’s life mission and career values are focused on increasing access to “quality care” in underprivileged communities. Janae’s hobbies include dancing, hiking, and traveling overseas. You can always find Janae looking for new restaurants to try!
Director of Finance: Will Stein
Will received his B.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a native of the suburbs of Chicago, so in his free time he likes to go to the beach and do outdoor activities that he isn’t able to do in the less than optimal Chicago weather (especially winter). Will is completing his residency at Providence Health & Services in Operational Excellence, and his healthcare interests include Quality Improvement and Process Improvement.
Director of Events: Vivahni Shastry
Viva received her B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Business from the beautiful and sunny school of University of California San Diego in 2015. She is currently doing her administrative residency in two departments at CHLA: Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine and Developmental Disabilities. Her healthcare interests include process improvement and quality of care. In her spare time, Viva loves to dance, read Harry Potter books (and go to Harry Potter World all the time), and stay involved in her cultural community.
Director of Program Development: Kali Hoang
Kali received her B.S. in Health Science from California State University, Fullerton. Upon graduating from CSUF, she worked in health benefits enrollment services as a client service and quality assurance coordinator for Diversified Healthcare Resources. Kali also contributes as an editor for the Southern California Policy Review, a student-run peer-reviewed policy journal. She is currently completing her residency with Southern California Permanente Medical Group in strategic planning and consulting for Life Care Planning and Palliative Care. Her interests include health policy, health disparities, and population health management. During her leisure hours, she enjoys reading, cooking, camping, and singing in the car (to endure LA traffic).
Director of Public Relations: Leah Mireles
A double Trojan, Leah graduated from USC in 2013 with a degree in Psychology and hopes to use her mind-reading skills for the greater good. In healthcare, she envisions this involving the initiation and management of process improvement projects for inpatient care facilities. Leah was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California and currently works at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in the Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Department in policy management and accreditation capacities. She is also involved with Price Latino Student Association as the Public Relations Co-Chair. Her favorite color is Cardinal. Her least favorite color is UCLA Blue.
Administrative Co-Chair: Christine Lim
Christine recently graduated from California State University, Fullerton in May 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Health Science. She worked as a Peer Health Educator at the Health Center on CSUF’s campus for over two years and strived to educate students about various health topics. Her passion for healthcare administration stems from her desire to improve cultural competency and the quality of care individuals in the LGBT community receive; however, if health administration doesn’t pan out, she would love to get involved with careers pertaining to graphic design or health marketing.
Administrative Co-Chair: Kevin Widjaja
Kevin graduated in 2014 with a degree in Integrative Biology and Physiology, with a minor in Asian languages, from the University of California Los Angeles. Yes, UCLA! He is pursuing a career in hospital management and administration and plans to integrate his future career with his passion for aging research in skeletal muscle physiology. He currently works in the UCLA School of Medicine, Geriatrics division as a research associate, studying the impact of mitochondrial mutation on skeletal muscle health and deterioration. He was born in Surabaya, Indonesia, and has lived in four different countries prior to moving to the U.S.Though he loves his new Trojan family, he will forever bleed the Blue & Gold! Fight, Fight, Fight (on)!
EMHA and Alumni Relations Chair: Anupreet Singh
Born and bred in the OC, Anupreet graduated from Chapman University in 2016 with a degree in Business Administration with emphases in Finance and International Business. Through her education in healthcare, Anupreet wishes to effect positive changes in people’s lives by improving access to healthcare facilities in rural India. In her free time she likes to surrey bike on the beach with her friends and is a Bollywood movie enthusiast. Anupreet is extremely excited and honored to be apart of the MHA class of 2018 and is looking forward to creating lifelong friends and learning about what healthcare has to offer.
Finance Chair: Luwam Kbrom
Luwam graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2011 where she received two bachelor degrees in Sociology and Social Welfare. She has worked at Unum, a Fortune 500 Life and Disability insurance company, for the past four years where she made significant contributions to increase sales and grow the company’s block of business. Luwam’s decision to pursue a master’s degree in Health Administration was sparked by her desire to become a leader and make a change. Her interests lie in health policy, operations, project management, and disease prevention. Luwam’s long term goal is to manage a health and wellness center. She is a health and fitness enthusiast who is always on the lookout for new ways to lead a healthier lifestyle. In her spare time, you can catch her at the gym, running at the track, or hiking the Los Angeles trails.
Events Chair: Dina Zein
Dina attended UC San Diego and received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Business in June 2016. She was born and raised in Kuwait and recently moved to Los Angeles from San Diego. Her healthcare interests revolve around improving patient safety and the quality of care received. In her free time, she enjoys traveling as much as possible and discovering new places to eat as she is a major foodie.
Program Development Chair: Justin Yamamoto
Justin recently completed his degree in public health from the University of Washington. As a first year MHA student, he has high aspirations to be a leader in healthcare, focusing on bringing patient services to a new level. Originally from Seattle, he volunteered at Swedish Medical Center, working in the Oncology unit and as an administrator in the program. An adventurous outdoorsman, he loves exploring the mountains, floating in the ocean, or cruising on two wheels. If he is in the city, you can bet that a 5-star rated Yelp restaurant is nearby.
Public Relations Chair: Monica Ruddell
Monica graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Health Informatics & Health Information Management in the Spring of 2016. Within the healthcare realm, she would like to focus on the areas of quality improvement, compliance, and risk management. Having never lived outside of the Seattle metropolitan area, Monica is excited to experience everything that Los Angeles has to offer (read: weather)! Monica is a die-hard Seahawks fan and has a huge crush on Pete Carroll.
Committee Co-Chair: Dhaneya Kumaraswamy
Dhaneya Kumar was raised in San Jose, California and graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in Psychology. In regards to the healthcare world, she is interested in focusing on quality of care as well as healthcare technology. In her spare time, she loves to play tennis, try new activities, and is constantly seeking adventures, all while initiating debate on whether or not Ross and Rachel were REALLY on a break.
Committee Co-Chair: Yasith Wickramarachi
Yasith graduated from the University of Anteaters (UCI) in 2012 with a degree in Biology and a constant yearning for Boba. He hopes to find out which healthcare path is right for him and meet as many people as possible. Yasith was born and raised in sunny, beautiful Southern California, where he likes to climb rocks, bike down mountains, and hit a ball aimlessly back and forth above a net on the beach. He is currently a first year looking forward to the school year and meeting all of his awesome classmates. His favorite colors are black and green. His least favorite color is burgundy. On Pottermore, he is consistently put in Slytherin even though he always aims for Gryffindor.
Committee Co-Chair: Celeste Cheung
Celeste graduated with a B.S. in Neuroscience from USC in 2015. Prior to returning to campus for graduate school, Celeste spent a year in Seattle as a vendor manager at Amazon. When not in class, she loves hiking and visiting local coffee shops, habits she picked up while living in the PNW.
